explicitly stated; not merely implied
I grew up immersed in Hip Hop Culture and I've been a typesetter and graphic designer with a passion for typography and print for many years.
I also doodle designs for the uchi clothing brand and do the occasional web and type work. I enjoy photography and illustration. and currently live in Bristol. So enough about me.
The art of screenprinting
Part of the philosophy of the uchi brand is to reflect the art forms that we love and to keep perfecting our skills.
I love the screenprinting process, the way after producing a great original image, you then have to spend what could be hours on preparation. Seperating the colours, exposing the screens, mixing the inks, choosing the right paper. Getting the registration on point. Getting unexpected but surprising results. Having it all go wrong and starting all over again without even doing one print!

Sometimes it can take longer than it took to produce the artwork in the first place but you're still glad you didn't go get it digitally reproduced and you're glad that you didn't give it another screenprinter to do, even if it would take a fraction of the time and effort.
The artwork's done, Mate. Just get it printed. No. The artwork maybe done but the artistry is just beginning.
So each week I'll do a new piece and hand print an edition of no more than 20. I'll experiment with inks and colours and try new things. The individual nuances that make each print slightly different is something commercial printers can't do. I'll spend time in adding different colours to just 5 prints on 300gsm cotton paper.
Of course all this detail and skill is wasted if the artwork doesn't hit the uchi mark. So as well as life drawing studies and brightly coloured images to liven any room you'll get the deep and intelligent pieces that make uchi the brand it is.
